The Banks of the Year Awards are awarded by the editors of LatinFinance, following an extensive research process. The key elements of each step of the process are described below.
LatinFinance will consult with a range of market participants to gain perspective on the shortlist, including portfolio managers, credit analysts and other market participants.

Review of financial data
LatinFinance will review the official financial data of each of the shortlisted or nominated banks. As relevant to each category, sources will include, but not be limited to: documents submitted as part of the application, financial reports and accounts, company presentations, stock exchange filings, and LatinFinance reports. Data will include, but not be limited to: capitalization levels, total number of assets, return on assets, return on equity and transaction details.
LatinFinance’s editorial team will supplement its review of financial data and information with insights from banking analysts and clients. This information will come from a review of analyst reports and in-depth telephone interviews.
The LatinFinance editorial team retains discretion over the final allocation of awards in each category.
