Here’s how to share an Apple Card with a co-owner and a family

Family sharing of the Apple Card was announced at the company’s Spring Loaded event in April. Now with iOS 14.6 some of the features are live officially and bring much more flexibility to the credit card. And two new videos today show how to share Apple Card with family members aged 13 or older.

The first video explains how to add a co-owner to your Apple Card. The other person must be at least 18 years old and you will need to report your combined income to Apple / Goldman Sachs. It also allows them to create credit and “share responsibility for all account activity.” And co-owners can order their own physical titanium Apple Card.

The second video explains how to add up to five “participants” to your Apple Card. It could be an actual member of the family or as Apple even notes a friend.

Apple Pay Vice President Jennifer Bailey shared more on why the feature was important to launch:

“We built Apple Card Family because we saw an opportunity to reinvent the way spouses, partners, and the people you trust most share credit cards and create credit together. There has been a lack of transparency and consumer understanding in how credit scores are calculated when there are two users of the same credit card, as the primary account holder benefits from building a strong credit history while the other doesn’t, ”said Jennifer Bailey, vice president of Apple Pay at Apple. “Apple Card Family allows people to build their credit history together equally.”

Apple also says in the Message from the press room “Existing Apple Card customers can also merge their Apple Card accounts, giving them the flexibility of a higher shared credit limit while maintaining the lower APR of the two accounts.”

However, in a link support document, Apple says merging two existing Apple Card accounts into one won’t be available until July.

Coming in July 2021: You can invite another Apple card owner to combine credit limits and create a co-ownership account.
